I have heard at many place hostgater seem to have a pretty decent hosting service when compared to others. But i am not sure about this. but just wanted to confirm it by asking here the opinion of others. let me know which is the best hosting service at the moment?

I still go through Godaddy & have not had any problems. It might be cliche, but it is bug free

The best webhosting highly depends on what you are going for, godaddy hosting is for the new guy... Um.. Figure out if you need bandwidth transfer or disk space as this will mean different servers and prices... Powebhosting offers a great plan for 300kMB bandwitdh transfer that is what I use for my own video websites this plan only costs $5.77/mo.

$5.77/mo is pretty good for a shared hosting. I guess it does become a reliability question. I haven't tried Powebhosting, so I can't comment on their reliability.

But DO NOT, under any circumstances, try WebHostingPad. NEVER! It's the crappiest host I've ever tried.

Was it just unreliable servers/ lots of down-time? I prefer free hosting, with a hidden url, because I am really that cheap.

Unreliable servers! My Web sites were unreachable 75% of the time.
